Review of Today's games - Sat 20 Sept - Wk 5
AFC Victory went one point clear at the top of the table after Waddington United lost their first game of the season. Reigning champions Plough Skellingthorpe moved above Waddington into second place as they retained their 100% record, while Ivy Tavern and Heckington United both pick up their third successive wins to hold fourth and fifth place. At the other end of the table Harby dropped into bottom position as BBH picked up their first win since re-joining the league while FC Rustons slipped into second to bottom place after suffering their fourth defeat in a row.
Terry McDougall netted a brace and Sean Booth one as AFC Victory won 3-1 at Rustons Sports Res. Adam Lynn was on target for Rustons. Plough FC visited Market Rasen who were playing their first home game of the season. Plough took a 2-0 lead with goals from Dean Szendrey and Jonny Bell but Rasen came back with two goals in two minutes to level the game before Szendrey grabbed the winner with fifteen minutes to go. This win puts Plough one point behind the Vic' with a game in hand. New boys Waddington found out what it was like to lose as they suffered a 4-0 defeat at Heckington United. Carl Sedlan on his return from Sleaford Town netted twice with Dave Davidson and Mark Vaughan getting the others. This saw Waddington slip to third just one point ahead of both Ivy Tavern CSA and Heckington who have two games in hand. Ivy Tavern CSA, like Heckington, continued their winning start with Ivy collecting an early season double with victory at Metheringham. The home side take a 2-0 lead inside ten minutes with goals from Jon Miller and Ashley Woodhall but George Brown reduced the arrears on the stroke of half time. Meg held Ivy out until the 70th minute when Daz Walker netted the equaliser and four minutes later Billy Munro scored the winner. Metheringham dropped to fifth place while Horncastle Town climbed to sixth as they collected their second win in a row with a 1-0 victory over FC Rustons United, who have lost four successive games. Andy Shackleton got Town's goal. In the bottom of the table clash, BBH picked up the first win of the season, with a 3-0 win at Harby. This pushed Harby to the bottom as BBH climbed up to twelfth. The only other league game should have seen Fulbeck United meet Cherry Knights but Fulbeck were unable to raise a side. The League Committee will sit to decide the outcome of this game but it is more than likely that the game will be awarded to Cherry.
In the previously postponed Lincs Junior Cup tie, RMSC Athletic failed to make it into round two, going down 4-0 at Lincs League side CGB Humbertherm.

Five of our sides should have been involved in Round One ties in the Lincs Junior Cup but only three sides were at the end of the day. Two teams not playing were Heckington united who received a walk-over against East Lincs Combination side Hogsthorpe St Mary's while RMSC Athletic's game at Lincs League side CGB Humbertherm was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch (this game will now be played next week). In the two remaining ties Ivy Tavern CSA recorded the highest score by any team in the first round of this seasons' competition with a 12-0 victory at Boston League side Holbeach Bank. Rick Robinson hit a double hat-trick, Billy Munro a hat-trick with Pete Rae getting two and Steve Gilliatt one. The other tie was an all Lincoln League tie which saw Cherry Knights overcome FC Rustons United 4-1. Cherry's scorers were James Coffey (2), Ben Martin and Andy Green with Danny Christopher getting both Rustons goals.
In League action leaders AFC Victory saw their 100% record go as they were made to share the points with one of their bogey sides Fulbeck United. The score was 2-2 with Alan Merryweather and Clements getting Victory's goals. With Victory dropping points Waddington were able to go level on points with them at the head of the table, although the Lincoln side hold top position on goal difference. Waddington won by the odd goal in five against Ruston Sports Reserves with Danny Bee getting two and Terry Rasmden one for Waddington and Danny Hunt and an own goal for Rustons. The biggest score-line in the league was registered by reigning champions Plough Skellingthorpe who still have a 100% record after a 6-1 victory over a still winless Harby. Alex Mumby grabbed four with Dean Szendry and Craig Smith getting the other two for Plough while Paul Marklew netted Harby's consolation goal. Metheringham picked up their second home win to climb into fifth place as a goal in each half saw them beat Market Rasen Town. Billy Fox and Pokhin Cheung were the scorers. Finally, picking up their first win of the season were Horncastle Town, who won 4-1 at BBH . This sees BBH occupy bottom place after their fourth successive defeat while Horncastle moved up to ninth. Aaron Burrows got a hat-trick and Graham McMahon the other goal for Horncastle with Matt Waite netting BBH's.

AFC Victory went two points clear at the top of the table as they registered the seasons highest away win so far with a 7-0 thrashing of Harby. Rob Kinsella grabbed a hat-trick with Sean Booth getting two and Terry McDougall and Pete Noble getting one each. New comers Waddington United saw their 100% record disappear as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Fulbeck United, who were opening their campaign. The home sides’ goals came from Bates and Campion with Danny Bee getting both for the visitors. Moving into third position, on goal difference, were Ivy Tavern CSA who inflicted a first defeat of the season on Metheringham. The score was 6-3 with Rick Robinson getting 3, Pete Rae 2 and Allmond 1 for Ivy while Jon Miller, Ash Woodhall and goalkeeper Jon Wright netting for the visitors. Reigning champions Plough Skellingthorpe were inactive which allowed Heckington United to go level with them just below the Ivy on goal difference. They picked up their second home win over RMSC Athletic with a 3-2 win. On target for RMSC, who suffered their first defeat were Derek Wyldes and James Corby with Michael Musson, Dave Davison and Andy Charlton getting Heckington’s goals. Cherry Knights, another side opening their season, were the latest side to beat new boys BBH as they won 5-3. Newland, Green and Waite got BBH’s goals with James Coffey (2), Nicholson (2) and Green getting Cherry’s. Picking up their first win, after two defeats, were Ruston Sports Reserves, who won their local derby with FC Rustons United, who like BBH, suffered a third successive defeat so far. The score was 2-1 with Jon Walker getting both Rustons Sports goals and Miller netting FC Ruston’s first goal of the season for them. Also getting their first goal of the season were
Week 2 - 30 Aug
Week 2 of the Lincoln Football League saw AFC Victory take top spot in the table on goal difference, goals from Wilkinson (2), Booth, Cray, McDougall and Sayce giving them a 6-0 victory over Bracebridge Heath. Two goals from Craig Percival and one from Terry Ramsden gave Waddington United a 3-0 half-time lead at home to Harby however two second half goals by Paul Marklew saw Harby fight back however Waddington held on and maintained their 100% start to the season. A single Alex Mumby strike was enough to give reigning champions Plough FC Skellingthorpe all three points from their visit to FC Ruston United. Metheringham started their season with a fine 6-0 home win over Horncastle Town; Jon Miller lead the way with a hat-trick, Matt Robinson, Joe Smith and Ash Woodhall also netted. Two goals each for Danny Hicks and Andy Mann saw RMSC Athletic victorious in their local derby with

The new season got underway with victories for highfliers of last year as champions Plough Skellingthorpe, AFC Victory and Heckington United all posting their intentions. The biggest win though was by new boys Waddington United who won at fellow new boys BBH, by 5-1. This sees them the first side to head the table in 2008-09 (albeit on goal difference) Waddington's goals came from Ramsden, Poucher, Freeman, Anderson and a.n.other while BBH's sole goal was from Hulse. Champions Plough won 2-0 at Ruston Sports Reserves with their goals coming from a debut goal by Mehta and one from Szendrey. Heckington United also won 2-0 in their re-arranged game against FC Rustons United (after both sides original games were called off). Old regulars were on the score sheet for them with Michael Musson and Adi Collin netting. Finally AFC Victory got off to a winning start with the only goal of the game from Simmonds against Market Rasen Town.

The fixture Secretary for the League is hopeful that the new fixtures will be out after the cup draws have been made on 14 July
*************
The Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 17th June at Moorlands Railway Sports and Social Club.
Derrick Richardson made his 33rd consecutive report as Secretary, an achievement in any organsation.
As mentioned AFC Maze had withdrawn but Harby FC had asked to be re-instated (as a new committee had been formed) and two new clubs made application, namely Waddington United and BBH (who were last in league in 2001-2002 season). These three sides were all welcomed into the League taking the membership up to 15 teams for the new season. The season will commence on Saturday 23rd August 2008 ended on Saturday 2nd May 2009. Fixture Secretary James Stanley is hopeful of getting the new fixtures out by the end of the month. This will include cup competition with the exception of the Village Trophy which has put out an invitation to other clubs with a closing date of 31st July. At present there are now eight sides in the competition on the arrival of Waddington Utd and BBH in the League.
Awards were made at the commencement of the meeting as follows
Charles Hammond Memorial Trophy for top scorer in the League - Michael Musson (Heckington United) - 27 goals
Matt Brewitt Merit Award for the outstanding secretary of season - Tom Howden (Plough FC Skellingthorpe)
H.P. Gibson Trophy for the best disciplined Club - Horncastle Town (for the fourth occasion in the last five seasons)
LINCOLN & DISTRICT VILLAGE TROPHY COMPETITION
The League is looking to increase numbers in its oldest competition, the Lincoln & District Village Trophy. The competition has been running since 1906 but over recent years entries have fallen dramatically due to an absence of football clubs in local villages. In the light of this the League invite any village side within a 30 mile radius of the Lincoln Stonebow to enter. League Secretary Derrick Richardson would welcome a call from any interested clubs. The closing date is the 31st July 2008. Entries can either be in writing to 12 Buttery Close, Lincoln, LN6 8SL or by phone on 01522 822623.

The week-end saw the last two cup finals decided, both played at Sincil Bank, thanks to the generosity of Lincoln City FC. On a glorious afternoon Plough Skellingthorpe lifted the Village Trophy for only the second occasion in their history, the last time being back in the 1949-50 season. This saw Plough complete a league double while opponents Heckington United ended a second season without any silverware. In the second final, the Horace Franklin Cup, Metheringham overcame Cherry Knights.
One league games also took place with RMSC closing the season with a third win in a row as they beat Horncastle Town. In mid week League runners-up Ivy Tavern CSA ended their season with a defeat at Heckington United.
Plough FC Skellingthorpe, already League champions, went into the Village Trophy final as favourites and they proved value for money beating Heckington United 2-0 in front of a large crowd. Giant central defender Simon Oborne got one of the Plough goals while Johnny Bell put himself in contention for the Charles Hammond Leading Scorers Award as he netted the other. He now has 25 goals, just two less than Heckington’s Michael Musson. Heckington’s veteran keeper Neil Terry played for much of the second half of the game with a broken jaw, incurred in a collision. He underwent an operation on Sunday to put two plates in his jaw and our good wishes go out to him.
In the second final the Horace Franklin Cup Metheringham took a 2-0 half time lead against Cherry Knights with two goals from Jon Miller. The second half was goalless until late in the game when Matt Purbrick made the game safe for Meg before skipper Guy Goodwin added a fourth in injury time.
In the only league game RMSC ensured fifth place as they completed a league double over Horncastle Town. On target for RMSC were James Corby and Gavin Mackie.
In the only mid week game Heckington played their penultimate league match of the season against arch rivals Ivy Tavern, winning 2-0. This ensured fourth place for Heckington as Michael Musson grabbed his 27th goal of the season to move top of the Leading Scorers table. The other goal came from Jason Sedlan.
Next week-end is the final week of the season with just four games left to be played. These being FC Rustons .v. Market Rasen Town
Fulbeck United v Metheringham
Heckington Utd v Horncastle Town
Plough FC Skellingthorpe v AFC victory
In the final game the players of Plough Skellingthorpe will be presented with the League Champions Trophy

Moorlands & Railway Sports & Social Club sponsored Amateur Cup final
AFC Victory 6-0 Plough FC Skellingthorpe (H - Kinsella 2, Dring 2, McDougall, Sayce)
Congratulations to AFC Victory on repeating their feat of last season in doing a Cup Double. On Thursday night they thumped the newly crowned League Champions Plough FC Skellingthorpe 6-0 to retain the Amateur Cup. Last week they won the David Cooper Cup when they beat Heckington United 2-1.
15/4/08
Congratulations to Plough FC Skellingthorpe on become Lincoln League Champions for the first time in possibly 50 years. The last time they won the league is not really known but if someone can tell us it would be appreciated. They achieved their feat with one game to spare as they won their twelfth consecutive league game, securing a ninth league double of the season over bottom side Harby 9-0. For Harby it was their final game in the league as they call it a day after a troubled season gallantly trying to get a side ever week. Also winning by a convincing margin were Heckington United, who beat Metheringham 5-0 as they seek to overhaul AFC Victory for the right to finish third in the table. On target for Plough were Jon Bell (3), James Coffey (3), Gareth Baxter (2) and Paul Burgess. Heckington's goals came from Michael Musson (2), Alan Booth (2) and Luke Hollingworth.
With Jonny Bell picking up a hat-trick he has now moved into contention for the Charlie Hammond Leading Goalscorer's Trophy as he now has 24 goals, the same as Billy Munro of Ivy Tavern CSA. They are both now two goals behind Heckington's Michael Musson whose two goals last night put him on 26 for the season. Two other strikers are not out of the chase either as they both have 20 goals, namely Danny Hicks (RMSC Athletic) and Rob Kinsella (AFC Victory).

Last week AFC Victory saw their title hopes take a knock and this week it was a case of deja vu as Heckington too came a cropper, failing to win at home against Fulbeck . Above them second placed Plough Skellingthorpe moved within a point of leaders Ivy Tavern with an expected victory over Metheringham while the Vic’ got back into winning ways with a win at Horncastle Town. Other results too went to form with RMSC Athletic beating Market Rasen Town and FC Rustons United overcoming Cherry Knights.
Second placed Heckington United turned in one of their worst performances in years as visitors Fulbeck went two up inside the first fifteen minutes through goals from Dave Broadbent and James Barnett. It could have been over and done with by the break with Fulbeck missing two further golden opportunities, In the second half the home side “rung the changes” but it was not until the last few minutes that a route one goals netted by Luke Hollingworth followed by a last gasp equaliser from Michael Musson that Heckington stole a draw. This was only the second time this season they have failed to win at home. As stated Plough Skellingthorpe go marching on as they moved onto Ivy Tavern’s shoulder. Saying that though they were made to fight for victory against an even younger than usual Metheringham side. The home side went ahead through 16 year old Rikki Smith who then took no further part in the game, suffering an accidental studding injury to his face as he scrambled the ball home. Plough levelled almost immediately with a peach of a goal from Gareth Baxter. In the second half Plough upped their game going ahead through Dean Szendrey and then adding a fourth with a lobbed goal from Jonny Bell before Craig Smith netted in the last minute with a sweetly struck right foot shoot from 20 yards. The test for Plough comes this week as they play Heckington at the week-end but before this they meet AFC Victory on Tuesday evening. Will their title hopes too, be scuppered?
As for AFC Victory they visited Horncastle Town scoring a goal in each half to win 2-0. On target were Terry McDougall and Dayne Sayce. RMSC Athletic secured fifth place with an ory over Market Rasen Town with goals from Sid Phillip, Danny Hicks and Chris Nuttall. While finally FC Rustons United secured a similar score-line with victory over Cherry Knights through goals from Simon Ward, Dave Curtis and Danny Curtis. Things could soon start to look clearer in the title race as three of the top four play on Tuesday night with leaders Ivy Tavern hosting RMSC Athletic and Plough Skellingthorpe playing AFC Victory. Also on Tuesday the semi finals of the Horace Franklin Cup take place, contested between the sides in the bottom four at the end of March. Metheringham host Harby and
