Lincolnshire has 85 sports apart from Football played week in week out, but does anyone ever see what they get up to?
Yes, we see the odd post from the Vulcan's swimming crowd and the Wellington Runners, fine, that now leaves 1798 (well maybe more, but those are the clubs I am aware of) Clubs who are silent!
Also what about the Olympic games?
Football, Swimming and Athletics, great, but what about the other 23 sports that Lincolnshire could be supplying competitors for the 2012 games.?

Right , getting off my Soap Box and wait (hopefully) for a flood of replies saying how wrong I am

The Echo don't just ignore them for a laugh. People just aren't as interested. Lincoln are a professional team, one of only 92 and compete in the worlds most popular sport. The other sports carry less of an interest for the public. It is not the echo's job to make these sports popular.

Since I posted six months ago, nice to see other sports are at least being reported on, as for not being interested, seems Cycling and Boxing gets a fair coverage, but disabled sports have yet to have a post, but Lincolnshire has a number of potential Para Olympic competitors in dressage and shooting.

I'm not against other sports and I follow international athletics as closely as I follow football, however I am aware that this sport is not of a great interest to people within Britain other than at certain times of the year, and local athletics has even less of a following. I just don't see the point in whinging about it and can't see that anyone has a responsibility to publish stories on it, market forces and all that.

Hi folks, there is a few questions coming on here, so I thought I would do my bit to try and answer them.

I took the helm of the sports desk back in April 2007 and one of the key commitments I've insisted on is trying to bring more sports into the paper.

The team here at Echo Towers has worked hard and the variety of sports has increased. We now have a regular Sports Matters feature every Thursday which focuses on different sports from swimming to shooting to waterskiing. These have seen different people then get in touch and my deputy sports editor is writing a feature at present on an aspiring paralympic volleyball player. So the variety is increasing.

We can't have a revolution overnight, but I'm confident that if we continue going in the direction we are it will keep improving. I'm happy to say we have made great strides in under a year and we intend to keep doing so.

If you know of a story then get in touch. We thrive on people giving us a call, and we're always up for a chat. All our contact details are available by clicking the contact button on the navigation bar on the left.
